The short answer
Profisee is an enterprise master data management (MDM) platform from Alpharetta, Georgia, built around the Microsoft stack. It matches duplicate records across source systems, merges them into one golden record with survivorship rules, and routes changes through stewardship workflows. It comes in two editions: Enterprise, with matching and survivorship, and Application, for Microsoft MDS migrations and reference data. Profisee publishes no price. It licenses by data volume and runs as SaaS in Azure, in your own cloud, or on your own servers.
We make Primentra, and we compete with Profisee for teams leaving Microsoft MDS. Read this with that in mind. Every fact about Profisee below comes from Profisee's own site or from Microsoft's documentation, and we link to the page each time.
Where Profisee comes from
No MDM vendor is closer to MDS. In 2007 Microsoft bought a company called Stratature and turned its product into Master Data Services. People from Stratature went on to found Profisee, and Profisee tells that story on its own MDS migration page.
The history shows. Profisee still models master data as entities, attributes and hierarchies, which is why it can carry an MDS model across with a tool instead of a rebuild.
What Profisee does
Profisee's home page lists matching and survivorship, data quality, stewardship, governance, relationship management, workflow, and address matching and verification. In plain terms:
| Capability | What it does for you |
|---|---|
| Matching and survivorship | Finds the same customer or supplier typed differently in two systems, and decides field by field which value wins. |
| Data quality | Checks and cleans values, addresses included. |
| Stewardship and workflow | Sends a record that needs a decision to the person who owns it. |
| Governance | Connects to Microsoft Purview. Microsoft documents the setup on Microsoft Learn. |
| Relationship management | Keeps the links between records, such as a supplier and its parent company. |
The Purview link is real and documented: Microsoft keeps a page called Microsoft Purview and Profisee Master Data Management. Profisee also says it is a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management Solutions. Our post on that Quadrant covers what Gartner scores and what it leaves out.
Enterprise or Application edition
Profisee sells two editions, and the line between them is matching.
| Edition | Built for | Matching, survivorship, golden records |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise | Full MDM across domains | Yes |
| Application | Microsoft MDS migrations and reference data | Listed under Enterprise only |
The Application Edition is Profisee's answer to the question most MDS teams end up asking: what replaces MDS when you never needed matching? If that describes you, ask Profisee to quote both editions, so you see what matching adds to the bill.
What Profisee costs
Profisee publishes no price list. Its pricing page asks you to request a quote, and it says three things about how the quote is built:
- You pay for total data volume, not per user.
- Domains and attributes are unlimited at no extra cost.
- Bulk pricing is available.
Profisee also sells through the Microsoft marketplace, and says a purchase there can count toward an Azure consumption commitment. If your company signed one, Profisee can come out of money that is already approved, and the budget discussion gets shorter.
Where it runs
Profisee calls itself the only MDM available as SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, hybrid or on-premises. In practice you choose between SaaS that Profisee hosts in Azure, a PaaS install in your own Azure, AWS or Google Cloud account, and your own servers.
Moving from MDS to Profisee
Every Profisee subscription includes the MDS Migration Utility at no charge. It connects to your MDS database and lets you pick the entities, attributes and hierarchies to bring across.
Plan for that last line. Your MDS business rules do not travel, so someone rebuilds them in Profisee by hand, and that someone needs to know why each rule exists.
When Profisee fits
Profisee earns its price when duplicates are the problem. Picture one customer typed into the CRM, the ERP and the billing system three different ways, with nobody sure which address is the right one. Matching and survivorship exist for that case, and you get them in the Enterprise Edition.
It also fits a company that has committed to Azure, Purview and Fabric. Microsoft's own documentation already shows how Profisee plugs in, so your architects start from a documented setup.
When something smaller fits
Plenty of MDS teams used MDS as a governed home for reference data: cost centres, product groups, country codes, with an approval step and an audit trail. MDS had no matching, and nobody missed it.
For that team the honest comparison is Profisee's Application Edition against a tool built for the same job. That is where Primentra sits. It runs on your own SQL Server, imports MDS models with a built-in wizard, and costs €7,500 a year with unlimited users. It has no match-and-merge today; duplicate detection is in development. Primentra vs Profisee puts the two side by side, and the 2026 MDS alternatives comparison adds the rest of the field.
Common questions
Is Profisee built on Microsoft MDS?
No, but the two share a history. Microsoft bought Stratature in 2007 and turned its product into Master Data Services. People from Stratature later founded Profisee. Profisee is a separate product that you license and run apart from SQL Server.
How much does Profisee cost?
Profisee publishes no price list and quotes each customer. Its pricing page says you pay for total data volume, not per user, with unlimited domains and attributes at no extra cost.
What is the Profisee Application Edition?
An edition for Microsoft MDS migrations and reference data. Profisee lists matching, survivorship and golden record management under its Enterprise Edition.
Can Profisee migrate an MDS model?
Yes. Every Profisee subscription includes the MDS Migration Utility at no charge. Profisee says it moves entities, attributes, hierarchies, relationships, users and groups, and data. It does not move data-quality rules.
Does Profisee run on-premises?
Yes. Profisee offers SaaS hosted in Azure by Profisee, PaaS in your own Azure, AWS or Google Cloud account, and hybrid or on-premises installs.
