The catches are consistent across customer reviews: setup is complex, the learning curve is steep, performance can degrade with large datasets, and the UI feels dated relative to modern tooling. More practically — EBX is enterprise software priced for enterprise budgets. It does not publish pricing publicly, but six-figure annual costs are common before you factor in the implementation partner and professional services that any realistic deployment requires.

What is Primentra?

Primentra is on-premise only. Your data stays on your own SQL Server — the same SQL Server your ERP, BI platform, and data warehouse already trust. For organizations in regulated industries where data residency and sovereignty matter, this is often a requirement rather than a preference. There is no cloud tenancy to audit, no SaaS vendor to assess, and no outbound data transfer to worry about.

TIBCO EBX has no automated MDS migration path. You would need to export your MDS data, remap it to EBX's data model, and configure the governance workflows from scratch — with implementation partner hours billed throughout. That is a viable path, but a much slower and more expensive one.

Governance and workflows

EBX's governance capabilities are its strongest feature. The workflow engine supports complex multi-step approval chains, role-based stewardship, and configurable data quality rules. For organizations where governance is a regulatory mandate — DORA, GDPR, financial reporting controls — EBX can be configured to enforce it at a level of granularity that most platforms cannot match.
