About Primentra

Built by a team with deep roots in data management — on a mission to modernize MDM.

We know MDS inside and out — including everything that's wrong with it

Our team has years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Master Data Services. We've configured models, designed entity structures, and worked closely with data stewards to get the most out of MDS. We know the platform inside and out — the good parts, the quirks, and the things that never should have shipped.

The Silverlight web UI that never evolved. The Excel Add-in that broke with every update. The staging process that made simple edits feel like rocket science. The security model that nobody fully understood. If you've worked with MDS, you know exactly what we mean.

When Microsoft announced that MDS would be removed from SQL Server 2025, we looked for alternatives. And that's where the real frustration began.

There was no real MDS alternative — so we built one

Every alternative we found fell into one of two camps. Either it was a massive enterprise platform — Informatica, Stibo, Profisee — with six-figure licensing, mandatory consultants, and months of implementation time. Or it was a simple data editing tool that didn't actually replace what MDS does: models, entities, domain-based attributes, hierarchies, approval workflows, and governed change management.

Nothing sat in the middle. Nothing said: “here's a proper MDM tool that does what MDS did, but better, faster, and at a price that makes sense.”

That gap is exactly why Primentra exists. We took everything we know about MDS — every pattern that works, every pain point that doesn't — and built a modern replacement from scratch. Same concepts (models, entities, domain attributes, hierarchies), completely new experience. And at a fraction of what enterprise vendors charge, because managing reference data shouldn't cost more than the database it runs on.

What's in a name?

Prime + Entra

The name Primentra combines Prime — as in primary, essential, first-class — with Entra, meaning to enter or access. It reflects what the tool stands for: a clear entry point to your most important data.

No layers of abstraction. No consultants needed. Just a direct path to managing master data, the way it should be.
